Morning Paddling Suspended

— January 15, 2022 —

Morning Paddling will be suspended until safety issues are addressed.
Due to the tidal surge from an underground volcanic eruption in Tonga this past Friday, the canoe ramp that was in place to facilitate moving the canoes from the canoe storage area to the water was lifted and washed up onto the canoe storage area on top of Kona Athletic's canoes. The surge created a 1 foot elevation drop between the pathway fronting the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel and Kamakahonua Beach. Until the situation can be corrected morning paddling will be suspended.
High school paddling is still in effect though as the canoes can be carried by the strong youths and their numbers.
