Remembering "Beanie" Heen/Upcoming Fundraiser

— November 10, 2011 —

Aloha All,

As most of you know, Beanie Heen passed away last Friday night. Some of you reading this may not have had the privilege to know Beanie, I could speak volumes about him; but a friend said it very succinctly....a great man.

Beanie, and now some other paddlers, are in the process of starting in new paddling club at the south end of Kawaihae harbor. Before Beanie passed, he had already planned a fundraiser race for this Saturday (Nov. 12). The event is still going to happen, in honor of Beanie. I don’t know all the details but the directive is to be there, registered by 8am. The race is for OC1, OC2, SUP, Paddleboard and OC6. I’m not sure of the length...but that hardly matters...this is for Beanie (I’m sure if you paddled this year, you will be able to complete the course). And I believe the entry fee is....what you can give to support the effort to build this club. Everyone entering the south part of Kawaihae harbor will have to present their ID to get in. This is all I know, so if you are inclined to participate, just go up Saturday morning and support the event.

Fundraising for Kai Opua....

We have the set up again this year for the Christmas tree, downtown at Emma’s Square. This is a lucrative little fundraiser that doesn’t require a big turn out but I do need 8 people to sign up. It’s on Monday morning, November 21.

We will meet at Great American Storage at 8:00am (Old Industrial) to get the boxes of decorations and then do the set up at Emma’s Square. Having volunteers that can show up with a truck is a big plus. We should be pau by 11:30. So if you can help the whole time...terrific. If you can only help the first half, or the second half, that will be great too.

Please contact me directly to sign up. Cell 769-0876 or amyy@current-events.com. Mahalos!

And this should have been on your calendar for a while....the Kai Opua General Membership Meeting is Sunday, November 27....4:00pm at the halau.

Mahalo,
Amy Young
